The French automatic story has one gearbox at its center: the AL4, co-developed by PSA and Renault (who call it DP0), fitted to millions of Peugeot, Citroën and Renault models over two decades and well known in workshops for its sensitivity to fluid condition and pressure-regulation solenoid wear. Around it, the French brands assembled a network of partner units: ZF automatics in the older V6 models, Aisin gearboxes behind the EAT6 and EAT8 names, Getrag dual-clutch units as the Renault EDC, and Jatco CVTs as the X-Tronic. That makes this category a map as much as a catalog - each family below points to where its parts coverage lives.
AL4 / DP0: the well-documented pressure-regulation solenoid (electrovalve) wear causing jerky shifts and limp mode; valve body wear; heat exchanger leaks contaminating the fluid with coolant. All mature repairs with excellent parts support.
DP2 / DP8: the same platform patterns, moderated by later updates.
EAT6 / EAT8: the Aisin family patterns - valve body and solenoid wear, converter lock-up shudder, fluid sensitivity.
EDC and X-Tronic: see the Getrag and Jatco family patterns respectively - dry clutch wear and mechatronic faults for EDC; belt, pulley and stepper motor wear for the CVTs.
Our store solutions: overhaul kits, pressure regulation solenoids, valve body components, friction and steel sets, heat exchangers, torque converter parts and complete rebuild kits - OE, OEM and selected aftermarket, depending on the unit.
AL4 / DP0 - the co-developed 4-speed of the Peugeot 206, 207, 307, 308, Citroën C3, C4, Xsara and Renault Clio, Megane, Scenic and Kangoo generations. The most widespread French automatic of its era.
DP2 / DP8 - the later developments of the same platform in newer Renault and Dacia applications.
4HP20 - the ZF 4-speed of the V6-era Peugeot 406, 605, 607 and Citroën C5, C6 and XM applications; technical coverage follows the ZF family.
EAT6 (AM6 / TF-80SC) - the Aisin 6-speed of the mid-2010s Peugeot and Citroën range; the same unit serves Volvo and Opel under other names. Parts coverage is published in our Aisin category.
EAT8 - the Aisin 8-speed of the current Peugeot, Citroën, DS and Opel generation. Parts coverage is published in our Aisin category.
Renault EDC - the dual-clutch units of Clio, Megane and Captur; these are Getrag-built (6DCT250, 7DCT300) and their coverage is published in our Getrag category.
Renault X-Tronic CVT - the Jatco CVTs (JF011E, JF015E) of Megane, Scenic, Qashqai-platform and related models; coverage is published in our Jatco category.
The intervals below are general MID Auto workshop guidance. The exact fluid specification, quantity, service procedure and interval must be confirmed by transmission code, VIN and the vehicle manufacturer’s documentation.
On the AL4 / DP0, the official lifetime fill does not reflect service practice: as general guidance, a fluid change around every 60,000 km with the exact specified fluid significantly improves shift quality and lifespan. The heat exchanger should be checked at every service - coolant intrusion into the fluid is a well-documented failure cause. Partner units follow their families’ regimes: Aisin, Getrag and Jatco guidance applies to EAT, EDC and X-Tronic units respectively.
