DSG (Direkt-Schalt-Getriebe) is the Volkswagen Group name for its dual-clutch transmissions, developed with BorgWarner for the wet-clutch units and LuK for the dry-clutch design. Audi markets the same technology as S tronic, and the internal codes are the ones that matter in the workshop: DQ for transverse installations, DL for longitudinal ones. Two clutches, one for the odd gears and one for the even gears, allow the next gear to be pre-selected while the current one is still engaged. The result is fast shifts and good efficiency, at the price of a mechatronic unit and a clutch system that both react badly to neglected fluid and to heat.
Marketing names are not part numbers. A Golf, an Octavia and a Leon can carry different DSG generations, and the same code can exist in several hardware and software variants. Parts must never be selected by vehicle model alone: confirm the full transmission code from the gearbox plate, and for mechatronic and control-unit parts also the part number of the unit itself.
Our store solutions: complete clutch packs, mechatronic components and solenoids, valve body parts, accumulators, filters and filter kits, bearings, bushings, seals, sealing sleeves and full overhaul kits for DSG transmissions - OE, OEM and selected aftermarket, depending on the unit. For mechatronic and control-unit work we also offer diagnosis and repair of your own unit; feasibility is confirmed per module number and fault.
The intervals below are general MID Auto workshop guidance. The exact fluid specification, quantity, service procedure and interval must be confirmed by transmission code, VIN and the vehicle manufacturer's documentation.
Wet DSG units (DQ250, DL501, DQ500, DQ381, 0CK, DQ400E): oil and filter change every 50,000 to 60,000 km with the exact specified DSG fluid, and earlier under towing, city traffic or performance use. The DQ200 is different: its gearbox runs on gear oil, while the mechatronic unit has its own separate hydraulic fluid circuit, which is serviced when the mechatronic is worked on rather than as a routine item. On every wet unit the filter is not optional: a clean filter protects the mechatronic, and reusing an old one after a clutch failure will contaminate the new parts.
